The article focuses on the book "The Brain As a Mental Organ," by H. Charlton Bastian. The chapters on brain, speech, and thought are also the fullest and clearest analysis yet written on the subject of aphasia, and should be read by all interested in that fascinating disease. The strange discrimination between outgoing and ingoing currents seems to hang together with a theory which Bastian was the first to advance explicitly in 1869, and which is to the mind one of the truest and most original parts of the present book. The book, as a whole, is to be recommended to advanced students.
