This article focuses on Middlesex, England-based Philological Society which is working on a dictionary. The process of sorting the slips passes through several stages, from mere mechanical alphabetizing on until it reaches an assistant who makes a preliminary draught of the article, which then goes to the editor for final revision, or rather for a provisional preparation for its proper pigeon-hole, as every bundle may be brought out from its rest for additions and corrections. With the army of readers already enlisted the material is growing so fast that it cannot all be published within the compass prescribed by the Clarendon Press, but the treasures of the "scriptorium" will be available for future research.
