This article focuses on the book "The Economic Revolution in India and the Public Works Policy," by A. Connell. Economic revolution in India dates from Governor-Generalship of Lord Dalhousie, but it was not until the suppression of the insurrection of 1857 that the Indian government adopted the policy of subordinating all its other functions to the one paramount object of giving effect to this economic revolution. The irrigation projects of the Indian Government threatened to be even more disastrous to the continent than the network of costly railways.
