The article focuses on late Archbishop of Canterbury Archibald Campbell Tait and his successor Edward Benson. Tait was not a striking preacher but he exerted very great influence in the Great Britain's House of Lords chiefly by the firmness of his character and the consistency of his public course. He also had remarkable powers of speech, which, matured as they were by long practice. Benson is a respectable nomination. Benson is a man of ability and honesty, against whom there is nothing to be said except that he has not yet shown any such conspicuous merits as to account for his promotion.
