The article discusses recent political developments in the U.S. The Maine election has resulted in the choice of a Republican Legislature and the maintenance of the existing complexion of the Congressional delegation. Mixed as this result, it has cast a damper on the Republican spirits, in spite of the reflection that at the November election it is more than likely that the vote of the State will be given for James A. Garfield, the Presidential candidate of the U.S. The article further discusses Republican Party majority in Vermont, which turns out to have been just about 25,000 and the net gain over the majority of 1876 somewhat more than 1,300.
