Abstract

The Week

September 13, 1883 issue

The article presents political news, related to the United States. The chief domestic event of consequence during the week has been the formal completion of the Northern Pacific Railroad, with appropriate ceremonies. The mere achievement of laying a continuous rail across the continent has long since been taken out of the realm of marvels and the country can never feel again the thrill which the joining of the Central and Union Pacific lines gave it. The distrustful attitude which capital has maintained for so many months has apparently relaxed a little during the past ten days. There has been a manifest disposition to invest in railroad stocks and bonds, and the prices of both have consequently been advancing pretty generally for nearly two weeks.
