The article focuses on the book entitled "A History of the Criminal Law of England." The book has been written by James Fitzjames Stephen. The historical importance of legal studies is a discovery of modem times, revealed to Americans and Englishmen mainly through the books of Henry Maine. In this book different results flow from the same cause when influencing a writer who may be described as primarily a logician and a legal controversialist, and only secondarily an historian of the laws of his country.
