This article present several news items related to political conditions in the U.S. and around the world for the period of August 8 to 18, 1885. The Commission appointed to visit the Central and South American States has submitted a report to the U.S. Department of State of its work in Uruguay and the Argentine Republic. The report say that the Government of Uruguay is not in such a financial condition as to offer pecuniary aid toward the establishment of a steamship line between its ports and the U.S., and will agree to afford the steamers special privileges in the matter of harbor dues, etc. Another news reports that the New York Democratic State Convention is called to meet at Saratoga, New York on September 24, 1885.
