This article discusses the book "Memoirs and Letters of Captain W. Glanville Evelyn," edited and annotated by G.D. Scull, in which he gives an account of the memoirs and letters written by Evelyn, of the Fourth Regiment, from North America, specifically in the period 1774-1776. Young Evelyn served in the English contingent during the seven years' war in Germany, and a letter written by him from Hanover in 1761 shows that he had learned something of war while in his teens. His first letter of the series, specially interesting on account of his share in the operations in the Province of Massachusetts, was written from Boston, July 6, 1774.
