The article presents some political updates as of July 4, 1889. One of the updates focuses on a reactionary drift in Republicanism by the action of the Ohio State Convention. Despite strong prejudice the Governor of Ohio was selected for the third term. On the other hand, a Republican Civil-Service Commission has just been overhauling the administration of the Indianapolis Post office by a Republican Postmaster, and insisting upon his discharge of a Republican gambler and other Republicans appointed in violation of the Civil-Service Law. Another update discusses the pleasure trip of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison.
