The article focuses on the activities of the Geological Society of America. By an interesting coincidence, at the meeting of the Geological Society of America, at Washington, last winter, George F. Becker, the U.S. geologist in charge of the survey of the gold-bearing gravels of the Pacific Coast and the author were both prepared to present new and most important evidence sustaining the conclusions of professor J.D. Whitney concerning the genuineness of the reported relics of man from under the lava of Table Mountain, near Sonora, California. The report of Becker, in a bulletin of the Geological Society, has recently been published accompanied with photogravures of objects to which it relates.
