The article presents information about former U.S. President George Washington's family when they lived in Virginia. Arthur Washington, the great-grandfather of the President used to live in Virginia in 1701. There are, however, indications of a connection, possibly early enough, between the Yorkshire families of Washington and Arthur, who dwelt not far apart. In the Public Records Office are Chancery proceeding in a suit of Henry Washington of South Cave v John Arthur of Doncaster. It is alleged that Henry Washington came to him as a poor lad, and, being the nephew of his wife Katharine-her half-sister's son-they took care of him, and brought him up to his own profession, the law.
