This article presents information on some of the recent socio-political developments. It is informed that the Buffalo Courier and the Plattsburgh Republican are having a joint debate on the fitness of Mr. Smith Weed to represent the Democrats of New York in the U.S. Senate, especially in his character as a supporter of the present tariff of 75 cents per ton on iron ore. The Plattsburgh paper, which supports Mr. Weed's claims issued the statement that more labor in proportion to capital invested is required in the production of iron ore than in any other branch of iron manufacture.
