The article presents information on the book "Emerson and Others," by Van Wyck Brooks. Brooks, as might have been expected, returns to the one theme he has never deserted since he began to write, or at least to publish. The sterility of the American scene, the failure of American life to support and enrich the American artist-this is his theme, presented already in so many ways and through so many personalities that in the hands of a less lovely writer it would long ago have become intolerably wearisome.
