The article presents a discussion on the prospects of the game football in the U.S. It is gradually gaining popularity, and bids fair soon to become an established national sport. It is spreading from the domains of schools and colleges to athletic clubs and other sports club. In Football violations of the rules of the game are easy, and give distinct advantages to the side that practices them. If football reaches the stage in which baseball now is, it will be the slugging matches that draw, and the managers will respond to the demand. Possibly in the end its brutalizing effects will become such that, like the prize-fight, it will have to be prohibited by law. Meanwhile, the game grows apace.
