The article presents a discussion on the changing ideology of the Republicans over the time in the U.S. Thirty years ago when the Republican party was founded, its members were educated and they provided good governance. It became par excellence the enlightened party. The way in which, as soon as it became simply a tariff party, it became enemy of nearly all the instruments of knowledge and scientific progress, is one of the most interesting episodes in the history of U.S. The McKinley Bill remarkably justifies the Republicans attitudes. The Bill may be considered as the dying declaration of the party touching its attitude towards civilization, and as such its sincerity cannot be questioned.
