A Scottish University Lectureroom

This article presents features of the lecture- room of the Edinburgh University of Scotland, and compares it with that of Universities of the United States. To one familiar with the decorousness of a Harvard class-room, a lecture in Edinburgh University is in strange contrast. It is the custom here for the professor to open his courses with an address apart from the subject of the immediate purpose of instruction, and intended, as it were, to give the collegiate constituency some taste of his quality, preparatory to the enrolment of his classes. Author got a chance to attend the address, presented by David Masson, a famous Scottish poet. Author is quite impressed by the Scotchman' s heartiness of the sympathy which Maason establishes with his hearers.
