This article focuses on the defeat of the Republican Party in the election for the Governor of Pennsylvania in the United States. No feature of the late elections is more encouraging than the defeat of Matthew Stanley Quay, through the rejection of his tool George W. Delamater, in Pennsylvania. Full returns show that Robert E. Pattison was elected Governor by more than 17,000 majority. Pennsylvania is the stronghold of the Republican party, and gave that party a majority of over 80,000 in the last Presidential election. It is a State where partisanship is always very strong. Despite all appeals and "scares," and despite the obvious frauds in Delamater's favor in Philadelphia, the Republican majority of over 80,000 in the election of 1888 has been wiped out, and there is nearly 20,000 majority on the other side.
