The article presents the book "The Odyssey of Homer," translated by George Herbert Palmer. The present volume contains the whole of the "Odyssey," and completes the first twelve books, which appeared in 1884. The Greek text, which accompanied that edition, is here omitted and a large number of slight changes have been made in the version as it first appeared. The real merits of Palmer's translation are its transparent diction, its directness, its combination of fidelity with idiom, at dignity with ease and its eminent readableness. It shows the fluent grace of the original like a Coan robe.
