Abstract

Foraker as a Type

The most noteworthy feature of the Ohio canvass is the reappearance of politician J.B. Foraker as the chief man in the Republican Party. Within two years, he is back again, virtually in control of the party organization. The Republican Party no longer stands for great principles. Its great leaders are nearly all gone, and John Sherman, the sole survivor in active life, seems like the veteran who lags superfluous on the stage. There is no reason why Foraker should not be just as influential if he had grown up in the State of John A. Andrew, for he is the sort of man whom the Republican party of to-day everywhere most honors.
