The article focuses on the book entitled, "The British Seas." The book has been written by W. Clark Russell in collaboration with other writers. The conditions past and present of the British Isles have been such as to create a maritime people. The country is no longer capable of sustaining its population, and a large proportion of the food supply is sea-borne. Add to these conditions a great producing capacity beyond the country's own needs, from raw materials in part brought by sea. Six of the eleven chapters of the book are written by Russell.
