The article presents information on the book "Cruising in the Netherlands," by R.C. Davies. Although the author does not state it in his book, the daily "forecasts" in the Dutch newspapers relate more to water than to temperature, and to the moisture in the earth beneath rather than in the air or heavens above. Less important than of wind and rain is the knowledge of the depth of water in the rivers, canals, zee, meer, and diep of the Netherlands. The little book is abundantly but cheaply illustrated and has a good map, besides the detailed route of the Atalanta.
