The article presents historical and political information about Alaska. About a century ago Baranoff brought some three hundred Aleuts with their little skin boats from the Kadiak region to hunt in the channels of the Alexander Archipelago, Alaska, where sea otters abounded. The trial proving satisfactory, he established a small colony on the strait extending northward from Sitka Sound, Alaska to Salisbury Sound, Alaska. This post or settlement was dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel and committed to his protection. Barras is at great pains to prove that the part taken by French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte on the two days of the royalist rising of Vendemiaire was only subordinate; Brune was, under Barras, the commander-in-chief. Still, he is condescending enough to acknowledge that Bonaparte showed on this occasion. He himself presented Bonaparte to the convention as his successor in the command of the army of Paris, France.
