The article throws light on works of Senator James McMillan of Michigan, during his legal power and how his richness helped him in attainment of his political ambitions. . He died suddenly in August 1902. He appears to have been the sort at man, who would have forced his way to the front if he had devoted himself to law instead of business, when he was a young man, and become a leader at the bar instead of on the exchange. His death emphasizes the misfortune of the system under which the choice of a U.S. Senator must be made by the Legislature. Due to sudden death of McMillan, the U.S. Governor will appoint a temporary successor, but his tenure will last only until the new Legislature which will meet early in January 1903 makes its choice.
