According to the author of this article, the stay in Johannesburg, South Africa was so actively employed that it was something of a relief to start away on the further journey. The main party made a brief stop at Bloemfontein, South Africa, and then a long southward detour by rail to Kimberley, South Africa, and there spent two days. Through this railway journeys, according to the author, he saw the broad country that the Boers had wrested from the natives, and that they had learned to occupy in somewhat patriarchal fashion. A problem that took author's attention in the interior was the question of British immigration. It must be borne in mind that an important factor in the future of South Africa is the principle, widely proclaimed by Briton and Boer alike, that the white man must work only with his head, and leave manual labor to the natives.
