In this article it is observed that what was formerly one of the chief firebrands of discord cannot flare out again with the same violence as previously. The author speaks on the question of education. In the U.S. there has often been astonishment at the great French quarrel between the state schools, from which religious instruction has been banished by law and replaced by civic and moral instruction and the free schools, all of which are religious schools and with few exceptions, Catholic, receiving their inspiration from the Holy See -- a fact which has led to their being regarded as Roman by their opponents.
