The article focuses on the invention of internal combustion motor by Rudolf Diesel. This was in acknowledgment of his services in devising a successful heat-motor in which controlled combustion replaces explosions, and which far exceeds in thermal efficiency any previous engine. The official recognition will bring the Diesel type of oil engine more prominently to public attention, and is sure to result in largely increased interest in the subject of economical power production throughout the engineering profession.
