This article presents information on socio-politics. Recommendations of U.S. President William Howard Taft relating to Alaska are outcome of a great deal of thought on his part and on that of an able and efficient Secretary of the Interior, who has made a special study of conditions existing in that Territory. The establishment of a leasing system for Alaska coal lands has long been plainly indicated as the proper solution of that problem. It is difficult to see on what ground failure of the U.S. Congress to act promptly to this end could be excused.
