Joseph Conrad, English novelist born in Poland, has interested a world deeply disillusioned of objective adventures, in the greater subjective adventures of character. Conrad's adventures also are intrinsic, yet they occur within a matrix astonishingly and convincingly actual. Unlike the old adventures, they do not, however, precisely depend upon this for development. Conrad's development are from within. Their outer manifestations follow from this inner movement, but more naturally like the growth of a plant .
