This article focuses on the South American trade during the first world war. Both the export and the import trade of the United States with South America made rapid gains during the war. United States is especially interested in the growth of exports but increase in imports is also necessary, especially in the class of merchandise which South America supplies. The greatest interest in the growth of export trade of United States lies in increasing the export of manufactures. However, the government authorities must appreciate the value of foreign markets to the permanent prosperity of this country.
