The article discusses two books "Just Outside," by Stacy Aumonier and "Tree of Heaven," by May Sinclair. If "Just Outside," conforms pretty closely to a recognized British model of before-the-war fiction, "The Tree of Heaven," is a work of imagination, a powerful interpretation of England in peace and at war. Here is yet another picture of Great Britain that, prosperous and mighty among nations, seemed to be developing so many elements of unrest and of discord within her own borders. Industrial war, class war, sex war, civil war, were all in the making, and the breaking-point seemed miraculously but hopelessly postponed from day to day.
