This article presents information about two books. The books are: "Friends and the Indians, 1655-1917," by Rayner Wickersham Kelsey, and "The Soul of Democracy: The Philosophy of the World War in Relation to Human Liberty," by Edward Howard Griggs. The average American, from his limited knowledge of the history of his country, can recall but little more concerning the Friends during the Colonial period than their tribulations in Puritan New England and their sensible dealings with the Indians in the purchase of Pennsylvania Colony in 1682. Kelsey has described clearly the courageous faith, persevering peaceableness, and missionary zeal of the disciples of George Fox during the 260 years of their life in the U.S.
