This article focuses on the book "Contributions Toward a History of Arabico-Gothic Culture," by Leo Wiener. Almost certainly no one scholar is in a position adequately to review this volume on all its sides. While any reviewer must feel convinced by this book of great ignorance, he must also feel growing in his brain an uncomfortable suspicion of the omniscience of its author, a suspicion in no way abated by the dogmatism of its statements. It may be well, then, for the present reviewer to say that he looks at the problem from the Arabic side.
