The article focuses on the book "The Problem of Volcanism," by Joseph P. Iddings. This book, embodying the substance of the Silliman Lectures at Yale University in 1914, attempts to present a theory of volcanism expressing current opinions on problems in petrology, geology, and astronomy. The author, trained in the Rocky Mountains in the service of the Geological Survey, has been for years educator of petrology in Chicago University and is the author of a well-known text on Igneous Rocks. Throughout the book, the author deals with cosmogonic and lithologic theory.
