The article presents news updates related to artillery. During its eighth week, the German offensive on the western front still hung fire. Heavy artillery duels continued north of the Lys River, and raids in southwest of Arras, France, were successfully carried on by the British. Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, too, has been subjected to criticism because of alleged shortage of machine guns and the failure of the U.S. to live up to the expectations of England in the number of men sent to Europe, as was stated by the British Premier at the beginning of the present German offensive.
