This article literary appraises the book "The Political and Economic Doctrines of John Marshall, Who for Thirty-four Years Was Chief Justice of the United States. And Also His Letters, Speeches, and Hitherto Unpublished and Uncollected Writings," by John Edward Oster. The letters presented in the book show U.S. jurist John Marshall's prejudice, his pride, his strength, and his weakness, and reveal Marshall as he has never been known before to anybody. The letters are arranged according to the persons to whom they were addressed, so that the reader is continually skipping back and forth within the period from 1784 to 1834.
