The article discusses the book "The Spanish Dependencies in South America," by Bernard Moses. The author has divided the history of Spanish rule in South America into three periods, and has made the second, that extending from 1550 to 1730, the object of his special study. Examining in particular the development of political organization under the Spanish monarchy, he has included only so much of the earlier records of discovery and exploration as throws light upon this question.
