This article focuses on the financial perspectives of the crops, the railway labor situation, and foreign economic relations in the U.S. The past twelve months have brought an effective change in American crop situation. The 1915 harvests were providential; they were record-breaking in size, and they were matched by a phenomenal world demand. The Government report of August 1, 1916, indicated a yield of about 654,000,000 bushels, against a yield of over a million bushels in 1915. Of more immediate concern is the labor situation in railroad industry. A strike of 400,000 railway operatives could supposedly be viewed with nothing short of consternation.
