This article presents information on the book "The Life of William McKinley," by Charles S. Olcott. This is a biography of U.S. President William McKinley who was assassinated in 1901. In this biography, the author has played Pygmalion to his subject. Olcott shows him to the readers as a living man. Most of the chapters of this book, reportedly, contain the summarized history of the customs tariff from the foundation of the republic to the opening of the Fifty-first Congress, the review of the currency controversy of the 90's, or the vicissitudes of the spirit of sectionalism, in order to enjoy at greater length the revelations of the man, neighbor, and husband which filter through the main narrative of McKinley's career.
