The article presents an overview of the book "The Life and Letters of John Fiske," written by John Spencer Clark. The book has been a biography of John Fiske. He came first to public notice as a champion of evolution and as the exponent and popularization of the philosophical theories of Herbert Spencer. Then with his reputation in that field apparently assured, he turned from philosophy to American history, and became the most successful and widely known writer and lecturer on that subject whom the country has produced.
