Mr. Wilson and the Italians

The article presents views of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson on the political condition of Italy. The Italian issue has come up ever since the Peace Conference held recently. During that time the British and French have declared that they would honor their signatures to the Treaty of London if Italy compromised with the Yugoslavs. Nonetheless the Italians have persisted in their policy of provocation, have occupied Fiume, which was given to them neither by the Treaty of London nor by the terms of the armistice and have isolated it from its Slavic industrial suburbs. Since Wilson came to France the Italian conservative groups have dropped even the pretence of lip-respect to the President and have developed a frank hostility to him, while socialists have shifted from enthusiasm to suspicion.
