This article literally appraises the book "A Treatise on the Conflict of Laws. Or Private International Law," by Joseph Henry Beale. Professor Beale has a wide reputation as an enthusiastic student and teacher of the Conflict of Laws. Although the topic does not arouse much interest in most law schools, he has made it very popular at Harvard. Large classes elect his course in this subject and report it to be not only stimulating as an academic exercise, bitt useful to them later at the bar. They agree with him that international commerce created the necessity for some principle of law which should protect the interests and give effect to the undertakings of the foreigner.
