This article focuses on some books on art and architecture. The great interest taken in the lives of the early settlers in the U.S. is indicated by the numerous volumes relating to "Old Colonial" houses that have been published during the last decade, among the best of which is Mary H. Northend's "Remodelled Farmhouses." The book, as its title suggests, deals with the simpler type of houses, too frequently neglected in favor of the more pretentious "mansions," which often lack a certain subtle charm found in the less pretentious old homes. Lawrence Weaver has compiled a thick volume containing some memorials, old and new, chosen for their artistic excellence. In "Monuments and Memorials," Weaver gives his ideas on all manner of monumental tombs, brasses, tablets, and the like.
