The article presents news related to political issues as of January 11, 1917. U.S. Senator Gilbert Monell Hitchcock's resolution approving the President's move for peace, after being warmly debated in the Senate, was amended and was passed on Friday by a vote of 48 to 17. A distressing account of deported Belgians was printed in the papers of last Friday, in which a description was given of the hardships endured by some of these victims, who were so overcome through hunger and exposure that they had to be sent back to their country. The British Army scandal revealing the tyrannical influence of a woman in the forefront of English aristocracy was brought to light on January 3 by the report of a court of inquiry.
