This article focuses on problems of the electric railroads in the U.S. In October 1918, Saint Louis and Milwaukee companies at the annual convention of the electric railways said that public ownership is the solution of difficulties of the electric railways. Public Service Commission of Massachusetts, after considering every phase of the traction situation, declares that the only practical solution of the difficulties of the companies is some form of state or municipal ownership. The author says, the only effective solution for the present difficulties appears to be the outright purchase or taking of the railways by the municipalities or by the state.
