This article presents information on several books. A standard history of Spanish institutions and culture is now made available to English readers in Charles E. Chapman's "A History of Spain," founded on Rafael Altamira's book on the subject. It is assumed that the present generation of Americans is interested in Spain chiefly as one of the powers which most successfully colonized this continent. Chapman has therefore retained those portions of his original, comprising about one-fifth of the complete work, which are of greatest interest to this type of reader.
