This article presents information on the book " The Collected Plays of John Masefield," in the preface to the new collected edition of his plays, dramatist John Masefield speaks of his dramatic career in the past tense. "I was a playwright, according to my powers," he says, "for ten years, during which the theatre in England was the main interest of my fellows and myself." Apparently he has deter- mined to devote his energy to other tasks; and so the time seems appropriate for an attempt to estimate his achievement as a dramatist.
