The article discusses the book "An Introduction to the Study of Landscape Design," by Henry Vincent Hubbard and Theodora Kimball. The joint authors maintain that very early in his history man shaped the economic changes which he made in the earth's surface so that they gave him also an "esthetic satisfaction." The book gives a good working definition of landscape architecture and an explanation of its province. It then examines in much detail taste, ideals, style, character, effects of composition, natural forms, plants and structures as material in landscape design. After an exhaustive consideration of its subject matter, an appendix deals with the professional practice of landscape architecture.
