The article discusses two books by James Branch Cabell, "Straws and Prayer-Books: Dizain des Diversions," and "From the Hidden Way: Dizain des Echos." The pattern by which Cabell has for 20 years been weaving his lustrous tapestry now pretty clearly reveals itself. "Straws and Prayer-Books" appears as the Epilogue, as "Beyond Life" was the Prologue, to what is henceforth to be called the Biography of Manuel of Poictesme, Count and Redeemer of the imagined province, and ancestor of all the characters in Cabell's world.
