The article focuses on the book "L'Ame Américaine," by Par Jean Richepin. No doubt M. Jean Richepin in the present volume, which is a collection of talks delivered before students, makes every effort to be rigorously just; he inclines, if anything, toward magnanimity, particularly when he comes to consider contemporary literary output. To the American reader his sources, which are heavily marshaled to support his opinions, will frequently appear amusing; they range from Otto Kahn to obscure undergraduate periodicals. On such subjects as the Redskins, where there is likely to be unanimity of opinion, M. Richepin treads on firm ground.
